Russia possesses large reserves of high-grade gold — 17.5 thousand tons. This was announced by Aslambek Germakhanov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra), on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.
According to him, the country is considered the third largest in terms of reserves and second in terms of precious metal production. Australia holds the first place in terms of fossil gold reserves, while China is the absolute leader in production.
And at the current level of production, these reserves allow Russia to maintain its leading position for up to 30 years.
The Federal Agency for Subsoil Use manages mineral reserves, including issuing licenses for gold mining, organizing searches for precious metals, maintaining the state balance of reserves, and controlling the rational use of natural resources. The largest gold producing companies — Polyus, UMMC, Nornickel and Polymetal — develop deposits in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, Magadan and Irkutsk Oblasts, as well as in Yakutia.
