Six hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 3.77 GW will be built in the Far East by 2042. The government is currently identifying investors for the projects, said Alexey Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, in an interview with TASS at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
Among the projects are the Mokskaya HPP with 1.2 GW and the Ivanovskaya HPP with 210 MW in Buryatia, the Nizhne-Zeyskaya HPP with 400 MW in the Amur Region, the Nizhne-Nimanskaya HPP with 360 MW in the Khabarovsk Krai, the Kankunskaya HPP with 1 GW in Yakutia, and the Primorskaya PSP with 600 MW in Primorye. In addition to HPPs, two NPPs with a total capacity of 3.2 GW and 4,000 km of power grids will be built by 2042. The government is identifying investors, with potential participants including En+, RusHydro, and Elga Management Company.
The first stage of the region's energy development is planned until 2030: during this period, 8.3 GW of thermal capacity will be commissioned, of which 3.5 GW will be coal-fired and 1.9 GW gas-fired. Additionally, 6,000 km of power lines will be laid. In August, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the commissioning of about 30 GW of new NPPs across the country, including small stations and sites in the Far East. According to Chekunkov, it is crucial for investors that the electricity deficit does not hinder projects.
