Russian Evolute and Chinese Changan Boosted the Market: EV Share in Russia Grew to 2%

Growth was supported by shipments of the I-Joy crossover

The Russian electric vehicle market continues to grow. In August 2026, their share reached 2% of all new car sales for the first time. This was reported in his Telegram channel by Sergey Tselikov, head of the Avtostat analytical agency.

According to his data, the share of plug-in hybrids (PHEV and EREV) remained at 5% in August, and including all hybrids, including mild ones, the total share of electrified vehicles exceeded 11%.

The Russian brand Evolute regained market leadership in August, accounting for more than a quarter of all sales. Customers began receiving previously ordered I-Joy crossovers, which ensured the brand's growth.

The leader in alternative imports this season was the electric crossover Changan Qiyuan Q05. In the last four weeks of August alone, more than 500 units were sold. The secret to its success, according to Tselikov, is the price of this "pre-disposal" model.

In early 2026, the Russian EV market surpassed the 0.8% share mark: at that time, Evolute i-Joy held the leadership, and the new UMO brand from Yandex unexpectedly broke into the top three. Later, UMO overtook Evolute and for the first time topped the ranking of the most popular brands, but in August, as we can see, Evolute regained its leadership due to shipments of previously ordered crossovers. Back in August 2025, the market was experiencing a downturn, and the most popular model was the Chinese Zeekr. By early 2026, Evolute i-Joy had established itself as a leader, and its success was attributed to its affordable price. The growth of EV share to 2% continues this trend, although models costing up to 3 million rubles remain the main driver.
