Telegram has begun rolling out Gram Wallet – a built-in non-custodial crypto wallet where users control their own assets and keys. Pavel Durov announced the launch.
Currently, access is only available to a limited group of users. Over the next two weeks, Telegram plans to gradually extend the wallet to its messenger audience, which exceeds one billion people.
Gram Wallet is based on a smart contract that has already been approved by validators. This will allow future wallet updates to be implemented without complex migrations of users and their assets to new versions.
The launch will be part of Telegram's broader effort to simplify non-custodial wallets. Gram Wallet is intended to make self-custody of cryptocurrency more understandable and convenient for a mass audience.
