Rosselkhoznadzor has identified preliminary signs of a possible technological violation in the production of the veterinary vaccine "Multikan-8". The inspection began after reports of dog deaths following the administration of the drug. No final conclusions have been reached yet.
The head of the agency, Sergey Dankvert, reported that specialists are currently unable to take the necessary samples, as this requires prosecutor's office permission. According to him, serious violations may be involved, and for the manufacturer, this could potentially result in license revocation.
"Multikan-8" is produced by the company "Vetbiohim". The drug is intended for the prevention of several infections in dogs, including canine distemper, parvovirus and coronavirus enteritis, leptospirosis, and rabies. The vaccine consists of a dry component with live attenuated viral strains and a liquid component with inactivated strains.
The first reports of vaccinated dog deaths appeared in August in the Yaroslavl region. The use of the drug was suspended there; similar measures were taken in the Zabaykalsky Krai. Rosselkhoznadzor sent materials to the prosecutor's office for a production inspection.
"Vetbiohim", in turn, announced a possible "destructive interference" by third parties. Now the regulator has to determine whether the animal deaths are directly related to the vaccine's quality and whether violations occurred during production.
