A new waterjet cutting (WJC) complex with numerical control (CNC) will be put into operation in the mechanical assembly shop at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad. The machine with a five-axis processing head will allow manufacturing products with high precision. This was reported by the press service of the shipbuilding enterprise.
The new equipment will make it possible to increase the material utilization factor and reduce the cost of mechanical processing of products.
According to Lyubetsky, this is already the second WJC complex at the shipyard. Its main difference is the processing of the workpiece in 5 coordinates, creating products of a more complex configuration. In addition, the part will not need additional processing on milling machines, he emphasized.
What materials can be processed on the WJC complex:
- carbon structural steels
- stainless steels
- titanium and nickel alloys
- composites
- polymers
- rubber
- ceramics
- stone
- glass
When processing non-ferrous metal products on the WJC complex, no heat or toxic fumes are released. Working on this machine is safer for humans.
Currently, engineers at Yantar Shipyard are setting up the equipment and performing commissioning works. The WJC complex will begin operation in the first half of September, the enterprise's press service concluded.
