"Arena-M" for T-90M "Proryv" to get 36 interceptors before reloading

KAZ ammunition can be tripled, and radar expanded for top protection

One of the modernization options for the "Arena-M" active protection system for T-90M "Proryv" and T-72B3M tanks involves increasing the ammunition load of counter-munitions from 12 to 36 units. This was reported by the "Voennaya Khronika" publication.

Analysts noted that the upgrade will allow combat vehicles to withstand more consecutive attacks without reloading the system. Preliminary, the work may be completed by the first quarter of 2027.

The current intensity of using small kamikaze UAVs in a single attack often significantly exceeds the standard ammunition load of an active protection system.

At the same time, "Arena-M" can be adapted to combat small-sized targets approaching from the upper hemisphere. Among the considered solutions is the expansion of the elevation sector of the radar station's view to 70° and more.

Military expert Evgeny Damantsev previously analyzed the technical capabilities of the "Arena-M" system in detail. The system is capable of intercepting drones, as well as repelling threats from NLAW, TOW-2A/B, and the L-3 Harris Vampire missile system.

However, analysts from "Voenny Osvedomitel" noted that due to the dimensions of the system and the limited space on the tank, increasing the number of charges will be problematic.
