The prospective "Iskander-1000" missile could combine high maneuverability with a range of about 1000 km. Military expert Vadim Mingalev stated that, based on its overall characteristics, this weapon could be more dangerous than the hypersonic "Kinzhal" complex.
According to the specialist, the key advantage of the prospective missile will be its ability to actively maneuver during flight. This, according to Mingalev, distinguishes the "Iskander-1000" from other missile systems and significantly complicates its interception.
Discussions about the missile's development began after footage from a testing ground appeared in 2024. In the footage, specialists noticed a weapon visually similar to the 9M723 ballistic missile of the "Iskander-M" complex, but noticeably larger. Experts suggested that the increased body size is related to an expanded fuel compartment.
The new design, according to specialists, could provide a range of approximately up to 1000 km. This estimated range became the basis for the unofficial designation "Iskander-1000." However, official characteristics of the missile have not yet been disclosed.
The new missile is considered a further development of the "Iskander" complex. If the estimates are confirmed, the increased fuel supply will significantly extend the flight range, and maintaining high maneuverability will result in a combination of characteristics that the expert considers one of the most serious advantages of the prospective weapon.
