Cellular weapons against cancer to be created by NSU and Pretor scientists

Therapy will be developed based on NK-lymphocytes - natural tumor "killers"

Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and the Pretor clinic network will join forces in developing cellular methods for treating oncological diseases. Research will be conducted at the laboratory for the development of high-tech medicinal products in the new educational and scientific center of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) of NSU.

As Alexander Firman, director of the Pretor clinic network, explained, the partners' task is not just to use existing methods of fighting oncology, but to achieve maximum treatment effectiveness and accelerate the introduction of scientific developments into clinical practice.

Of particular interest is cell therapy based on NK-lymphocytes – natural "killers" of the immune system, capable of recognizing and destroying tumor cells resistant to other types of treatment. Some patients still respond poorly to gene-engineered therapy, and it is cellular technologies that can fill this niche.

NSU Rector Dmitry Pyshny emphasized that the university is betting on the rapid transfer of developments from the laboratory to the clinic. This year, the construction of two buildings of the new NSU campus is being completed, which will house about 30 laboratories, some of which will focus on biomedical and biotechnological research. This will create infrastructure for joint projects with clinical partners and will shorten the path from laboratory sample to real clinical practice.
