Rospotrebnadzor has set limits on how much time schoolchildren can spend at the computer during lessons. According to RIA Novosti, for students in grades 1–2, the limit is no more than 20 minutes, for grades 3–4 — 25 minutes, for grades 5–9 — 30 minutes, and high school students in grades 10–11 can work for up to 35 minutes.
Restrictions also apply to interactive whiteboards. Children under 10 years old can use them for no more than 20 minutes, students over 10 years old — for no more than half an hour. When working with any electronic learning tools during lessons and breaks, students must perform eye exercises.
The norms are aimed at reducing visual strain and preventing fatigue in schoolchildren. They supplement previously adopted sanitary rules and will be applied in all educational organizations. For teachers, this means the need to plan lessons taking into account the permissible time for working with digital devices and to alternate types of activities.
