ChatGPT started blocking accounts of Russians

OpenAI linked the blocks to bypassing geo-restrictions and concealing origin

OpenAI announced that it has blocked a number of accounts that, according to its data, were used to create content in violation of its rules. These accounts were associated with promoting a non-existent expert organization.

Operators submitted requests in Russian and asked the neural network to conceal signs of origin. Applications bypassing geographical restrictions were used for access. The created content was published on external platforms.

A key element was the website of a non-existent organization, registered in February 2025. Almost all published materials were copied from other sources. This is allegedly linked to a disinformation campaign.

The Russian side has repeatedly rejected accusations from Western countries regarding sabotage and cyberattacks.
