Medium-class drone engines begin production at Moscow's FC BAS: UAV flight over 20 hours

The pilot batch with a 120-hour safety margin is ready for mass production

The Federal Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (FC BAS) has begun manufacturing components for the first prototypes of a Russian internal combustion engine designed for medium-class unmanned aircraft systems, the press service of the capital's Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development reported.

The new power plant is designed for long continuous operation with a 120-hour safety margin, which will allow the aircraft to stay in the air for more than 20 hours. During the preparation for production, FC BAS technologists, together with the customer, optimized the design, adapting it for mass production, reducing manufacturing costs, and increasing productivity without compromising technical and flight characteristics.

As noted by the center, the emergence of another domestic solution will expand the capabilities of Russian manufacturers and accelerate the creation of new unmanned systems. Engines with a long operating duration are especially in demand for infrastructure monitoring, forest area surveillance, environmental control, and search and rescue operations. The creation of proprietary power plants increases the technological independence of the industry and supports the sustainable growth of the unmanned aircraft systems market.
