The first GOST for toys with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will come into force in Russia on September 1, 2026. The document will establish a unified approach to ensuring the safety of using new technologies in products for children.
The state standard applies to products for children aged 1 to 14 years. All AI toys are divided by pedagogical purpose:
- didactic (with learning elements) during play
- entertainment
- interactive technical
- socio-communicative
Products with embedded AI also differ in the type of interaction with the child – with a voice assistant, visually interactive, user-learning, autonomous (online), and connected (offline).
The GOST specifies the main requirements for new generation toys. These include traditional safety (physical, fire, digital, information, psycho-emotional). Developers must exclude interaction scenarios that could cause fear, anxiety, aggression, or strong attachment in a child.
The standard provides for mandatory protection of personal data of the user and their family, special requirements for the use of biometrics. The document emphasizes that child psychologists, educators, and parents must be involved in the creation of AI products. They will help create a product that meets the child's needs.
