Before the mass launch of the digital ruble, fraudsters may more actively use the new topic to deceive Russians. Sergey Shcherbakov, technical director of Stakhanovets company, expects calls and messages allegedly from banks or the Central Bank demanding to urgently transfer savings to digital rubles or, conversely, to "protect" them from automatic transfer.

Although no one will open an account automatically, and salaries, pensions, and social benefits will not be transferred to digital rubles without consent.
Another scenario is fake websites and applications imitating a digital ruble wallet. Fraudulent QR codes may also appear, replacing the real code during payment. The danger of such schemes lies in the new and still unfamiliar terminology: messages with the words "Central Bank," "digital wallet," and "fund protection" may look convincing.
The use of the digital ruble remains voluntary. The Central Bank and banks do not demand urgent money transfers by phone, dictating codes from SMS, or installing third-party applications. All operations will be carried out through the official bank application connected to the digital ruble platform.
Mass implementation will begin on September 1, 2026. From this moment, digital wallets can be opened in the applications of the largest banks, and large retail chains with revenues exceeding 120 million rubles will begin accepting such payments via QR code.
