Banks are ready to launch digital ruble from September 1: clients will be able to open accounts in applications

Payments and transfers will be available via universal QR code

Major Russian banks have confirmed their readiness to launch the digital ruble from September 1, RIA "Novosti" reported, citing surveyed credit organizations. Clients will be able to voluntarily open a digital ruble account through their bank's mobile application.

Sber has deployed the necessary infrastructure; the account will appear on the main screen of the latest version of "Sberbank Online".

VTB will begin implementing operations for individuals in the "VTB Online" application on Android version 20.16 and higher; opening is available after consent through "Gosuslugi".

Gazprombank promises functionality in the mobile application and web version for business; a separate application will not be required.

VTB clarified that if a client uses several banking applications, it is enough to open an account once, and in the others, gain access to an existing account.

Operations for citizens are free. Payment will be made via a universal QR code, which combines the digital ruble, SBP, bank payment services, and installment services. VTB will add transfers by phone number, government payments, and the ability to transfer digital rubles to a non-cash account with subsequent withdrawal at an ATM without commissions. PSB will open a full list of operations, including transfers and auto-payment templates. Ozon Bank, included in the list of significant players in the payment services market, also confirmed its readiness for launch.
