Tests of the newest eight-axle gondola car model 12-5992 "BAM", manufactured by UVZ Concern, were conducted at the Sukhodol seaport (Primorsky Krai). According to the press service of the Federal Freight Company, the test unloading was performed using a tandem car dumper. The train, loaded with Kuzbass coal, arrived from the West Siberian Railway polygon.
The gondola car was designed by engineers of the Ural Design Bureau of Car Building at the request of FGK. Its carrying capacity reaches 151 tons, and its body volume is 166 m³. A train of 45 such cars transports up to 6,795 tons of coal, which is 27.6% more than in innovative gondola cars of the previous generation. At the same time, the train length does not increase: "BAM" is almost 6 meters shorter than two standard cars. Andrey Abakumov, Deputy General Director of UVZ Concern for Civil Products, noted that the engineering basis of the model is an original coupling device design, allowing for the formation of heavier trains without modifying the track infrastructure.
The gondola car has already made trips in the Urals, the Far East, Udmurtia, Kuzbass, and Perm Krai, confirming its versatility and safety. Mark Zolochevsky, Deputy Technical Director of the Sukhodol port, emphasized that the port is interested in such cars – they allow increasing transshipment volumes without changing the length of trains; only a small software adjustment will be required. The test was another step towards increasing the carrying capacity of the Eastern Polygon.
