Millions of Drivers Told Yandex About the Situation at Gas Stations

Services help to find out about fuel availability and queues in advance before a trip

From July 2 to August 13, drivers left almost 5.9 million messages about the situation at Russian gas stations through Yandex Maps and Yandex Zapravki services. Users reported on fuel availability and queues at stations, and also opened surveys about the situation at gas stations more than 20 million times, the company's press service stated.

User activity significantly increased during this period. In early July, the services received 10–20 thousand responses per day, and by mid-August, the number of messages increased to 120–147 thousand per day. A record was set on August 12, when drivers sent more than 147 thousand responses. Most messages are received during the daytime and evening.

The main part of the data came through gas station cards in Yandex Maps — about 3.2 million responses. Another approximately 2.6 million messages were sent by users through Yandex Zapravki.

In addition to motorists' messages, the services take into account depersonalized information about fuel orders, taxi driver data, and traffic conditions. Based on this data, information about the situation at specific stations is formed.

Before a trip, a driver can open data on gas stations, see fuel availability and possible queues, and then choose a suitable gas station along the route, the company emphasized.
