The effectiveness of KAZ "Arena-M" for T-90M surpassed Trophy on Merkava tanks

The active protection system is capable of shooting down FGM-148 Javelin missiles

The Russian active protection system "Arena-M" has demonstrated capabilities that allow it to be considered a more versatile tank protection system compared to the Israeli Trophy. The system, among other things, shoots down American FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles.

This capability is especially important due to the attack profile of modern ATGM, where the munition strikes the tank from above.

The Israeli Trophy is widely used on Merkava Mk. 4 tanks and Namer armored personnel carriers. The system has proven effective against RPG grenades and a number of anti-tank missiles, but the emergence of FPV drones has changed the requirements for active protection of armored vehicles.

"Arena-M" is already being installed on Russian T-90M and T-72B3M tanks. There is also a possibility of integrating the system with T-80 family tanks.

Military expert Evgeny Damantsev previously thoroughly analyzed the technical capabilities of the "Arena-M" system. The system is capable of intercepting PG-7VS cumulative grenades dropped from Baba Yaga hexacopters, as well as threats from NLAW, TOW-2A/B, and the L-3 Harris Vampire missile system.
