The characteristics of the Su-57 fighter allow it to perform a special maneuver in the air that no one else in the world can — the "ascending spin." Test pilot Sergey Bogdan explained its specifics.
According to him, this maneuver actually overturns classical notions of aerodynamics and the capabilities of combat aviation.
We stall the aircraft, and it begins to "spin" upwards at critical angles of attack. That is, the vertical speed is directed upwards, which is unusual. Usually, a spin is performed downwards. This is a highlight that no one has shown before.
Performing such a spin on the Su-57 is completely safe due to the controlled thrust vector on the engines, the pilot noted.
It should be noted that in the class of heavy jet fighters, no one in the world can repeat this maneuver in the same way. For example, the American F-22 Raptor has controlled thrust vectors, but the nozzles rotate only up and down, while on the Su-57, they rotate in all directions.
At the same time, the Su-57 surpasses the Raptor in a number of parameters: the presence of all-round visibility, more modern avionics, and the ability to carry the latest hypersonic missiles inside the fuselage.
