There are still almost no electric vehicles in Russian taxis: according to Avtostat agency, about 4,000 electric vehicles are registered, while there are 950,000 valid permits. This is less than 0.5% of the total number.
The domestic sedan Evolute i-Pro remains the leader with 1.8 thousand registered units. The Chinese FAW Bestune Nat (610 cars) and the Japanese Nissan Leaf (550) follow with a threefold lag. Other brands, including Tesla, BYD, Hongqi, and Zeekr, are represented by single units. Recently, taxi fleets have been actively acquiring electric compact vans UMO 5, assembled at the Moskvich plant – there are already 150 such cars in the capital alone.
The taxi localization law, effective March 1, 2026, mandates the purchase of predominantly Russian cars, and electric vehicles are included in the Ministry of Industry and Trade's list. However, regional quotas of up to 25% for self-employed individuals are in effect until 2033, which slows down the transition. Electric vehicle sales are growing, but absolute figures are still small: 7,025 "pure" electric vehicles out of 732,000 passenger cars were sold in seven months. Taxis remain the most conservative part of the market.
