Gunsmiths at Kalashnikov Concern are working on creating a new caliber cartridge capable of penetrating personal protective equipment (PPE), including body armor. This was stated by the head of the concern, Alan Lushnikov.
According to Lushnikov, the development of the special cartridge is related not only to the need to penetrate enemy PPE, but also to increase the firing range in direct confrontation. The head of the concern emphasized that this task must be solved.
This is a different ballistic solution, a different caliber — as a result, a combination of all characteristics. If you are technically and technologically inferior to the enemy, you will lose.
The work is being carried out as part of the implementation of the interdepartmental comprehensive targeted program for creating combat equipment for military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces until 2035, Lushnikov concluded.
Kalashnikov produces a wide range of cartridges for civilian and service weapons. Production is established at several enterprises within the concern's structure, including TsNIITOCHMASH (JSC "Central Research Institute of Precision Machine Building") in the Moscow region.
