Developers from Perm have created a hemostatic tourniquet that is installed directly on clothing or limb armor and can be tightened with one hand. Thanks to this placement, it does not need to be separately searched for and retrieved from a pouch in case of severe injury – the tourniquet is already on the equipment and ready for use.
The design is intended for placement in the upper third of the arm or leg. The system's core is a strap that passes from the outside of the clothing to the inside through special openings. Inside the clothing, it is held by elastic guides, while outside there are two self-tightening locks and a windlass.
The operating principle is divided into two stages. First, the user sharply pulls the free end of the strap with one hand. This allows the strap to be quickly pressed against the limb under the clothing, with the first lock preventing its backward movement. Then, with the same hand, the user rotates the windlass to the required degree of compression.
The device is designed not only for light use. The authors have provided for the possibility of using the tourniquet with thick winter clothing and armor protection for the shoulders or thighs. When tightened, the strap moves along the inside of the clothing thanks to elastic guides that prevent it from simply crumpling the fabric.
Special attention in the design is paid to quick removal. The first self-tightening lock has a built-in quick-release mechanism. When it is activated, the lock separates into two parts, after which the tourniquet can be quickly removed along with the clothing or armor protection. The design itself can also be transferred to another set of equipment.
The width of the non-stretchable strap is provided in the range of 8 to 25 mm. The windlass is attached directly to the strap and can be fixed on a platform or clothing.
