Russian banks have less than three months left to switch from ViPNet Coordinator HW4 to the new HW5 protection system. On October 29, the old version's FSB certificates expire, after which it will be impossible to use it in secure networks. Through such complexes, banks protect communication between branches, processing, ATMs, and other nodes.
The transition turned out to be more complicated than a regular update. Banks need to deploy a new ViPNet Prime management complex, reconfigure infrastructure, and train employees. In some cases, old HW4 devices will have to be completely replaced.
The cost of one HW5 complex starts from approximately 300 thousand rubles and reaches 2.5 million. For large banks, the main danger is a possible failure during migration: a processing shutdown even for a few hours can result in tens of millions of rubles in losses.
A small bank may need two to three weeks for the transition, a large one – from three to six months. If they do not meet the October 29 deadline, the organization risks losing access to secure government networks and facing problems when working with the tax authorities, Rosfinmonitoring, and other agencies.
