A drone damaged the connecting gallery between the power units of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, striking a few meters from the reactor compartment of the third unit. This was reported by Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev.
According to him, the attack occurred at night. The drone hit the gallery, which connects all six power units of the plant and is used by personnel to move between facilities. As a result of the strike, there was no explosion, and the reactor compartment equipment was not damaged.
Currently, the Zaporizhzhia NPP receives external power supply via one 330 kV line "Ferrosplavnaya-1". Previously, specialists restored the damaged "Dneprovskaya" line, but its connection has not yet been completed.
Employees continue to work at the plant, ensuring control of technological processes and maintaining the facility in a safe condition. According to Rosatom, despite the infrastructure damage, no critical disruptions in the operation of the power units have been recorded.
The head of the Russian nuclear industry also reported that the situation around the city of Energodar remains complex: previously, the settlement experienced power and water supply interruptions, and some facilities operate in a limited mode.
Alexey Likhachev stated that the safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP requires increased attention from international organizations. According to him, during consultations, the possibility of a visit by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the plant site and Energodar was discussed.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP remains the largest nuclear facility in Europe. The plant has six power units with VVER-1000 reactors, with a total installed capacity of about 6 GW.
