Specialists from Kuban State Technological University (KubGTU) have developed a self-braking asynchronous electric motor that can be used in explosive environments. The invention is intended for mechanisms where quick stopping and shaft locking are required when power is disconnected.
The design includes a stator and a dual rotor mounted on a shaft with the possibility of axial movement. At startup, the rotor moves under the action of electromagnetic forces, compressing the brake spring, and moves away from the brake pads. When power is disconnected, the spring returns the rotor to its original position, and the conical pads with brake linings reliably fix the shaft.
This solution prevents torque dips, increases axial force, and reduces response time during startup. The motor can be used in the oil and gas, chemical, and mining industries, where equipment operates in explosive areas.
