The nuclear submarine cruiser "Ulyanovsk" of Project 885M "Yasen-M" has been launched from the boathouse at the OSK "Sevmash" enterprise. This is one of the key stages in the submarine's construction, after which the ship proceeds to completion afloat and preparation for trials. The solemn ceremony took place on July 28, 2026.
Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, called the launch of the "Ulyanovsk" nuclear submarine from the boathouse an important event for the Navy. In June, the nuclear submarine cruiser "Murmansk" was laid down at the "Sevmash" slipways. Now, the sixth ship of the "Yasen-M" project has been launched. The "Ulyanovsk" will undergo completion afloat and trials, after which it will join the Red Banner Northern Fleet.
Andrey Bogomolov, Deputy General Director of OSK for military shipbuilding, emphasized that the enterprises possess the necessary competencies to maintain a high pace of serial construction of fourth-generation nuclear submarines. This allows for regular replenishment of the Navy with ships capable of effectively performing combat missions in modern conditions. He also assured that work to equip the Armed Forces with a modern fleet will continue.
The launch of the "Ulyanovsk" nuclear submarine from the boathouse was initiated by Mikhail Budnichenko, General Director of "Sevmash". Traditionally, the cruiser's commander broke a bottle of champagne against the ship's hull.
The "Ulyanovsk" became the sixth missile carrier in the line of multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the "Yasen-M" project, developed by the OSK "Malakhit" design bureau and built at "Sevmash".

The lead cruiser of the "Yasen" project, "Severodvinsk", and four more nuclear submarine cruisers of the "Yasen-M" project – "Kazan", "Novosibirsk", "Krasnoyarsk", and "Arkhangelsk" – are already serving in the Russian Navy. Several more ships of this series are at various stages of construction. Just over a month ago, on June 17, 2026, the ninth nuclear submarine cruiser of the "Yasen-M" project – "Murmansk" – was laid down at the "Sevmash" slipway.
Multi-purpose nuclear submarine cruisers combine the latest Russian developments in the field of military and naval armaments, technical and radio-electronic complexes, as well as main power plants. The "Yasen-M" project uses modernized equipment, a new element base for complexes, and materials produced by Russian enterprises.
