Thousands of tons of concrete: Leningrad NPP-2 completes an important construction stage

A giant foundation for the construction of the containment building has been prepared for power unit No. 4

At power unit No. 4 of Leningrad NPP-2, one of the important construction stages has been completed – the annular corridor of the reactor building is ready. This is a powerful reinforced concrete foundation on which the inner containment shell of the reactor building will be erected.

The created structure is designed for heavy loads and will become a reliable support for the further tiered construction of the containment shell.

It is on this foundation that the next elements of the inner containment shell will be mounted – a multi-layered system that is one of the key parts of the reactor building.

The next stage will be the installation of the first tiers of the inner containment shell.

Leningrad NPP-2 is a modern nuclear power plant being built in the city of Sosnovy Bor. It will replace the first four power units of Leningrad NPP with RBMK-1000 reactors that are being decommissioned.

Leningrad NPP-2 will use VVER-1200 pressurized water reactors. The estimated service life of the plant is 50 years.
