The Project 885M Yasen-M nuclear submarine "Perm" will join the Russian Navy by the end of 2026. It will be the first Russian submarine to receive standard armament in the form of the Zircon hypersonic missile system. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, announced the timeline for the ship's transfer to the fleet.
By the end of the year, it is planned to commission another 21 units into the fleet – including the Project Yasen-M submarine "Perm". Also, to complete the repair and modernization of the nuclear cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" and the cruiser submarine "Leopard".
K-572 "Perm" became the sixth submarine built under the modernized Project Yasen-M. It was laid down in 2016 and launched in 2025. After that, the ship underwent factory sea trials, during which the operation of its main systems and equipment was checked.
The main feature of the new submarine is its expanded missile arsenal. Unlike previous ships, "Perm" gained the ability to use Zircon hypersonic missiles as standard armament. In addition to them, the submarine will be able to use Kalibr cruise missiles and Oniks anti-ship missiles.
The nuclear submarine belongs to the fourth generation of multi-purpose nuclear submarines. Its length is about 130 meters, and its full displacement is 13.8 thousand tons. It is equipped with a nuclear reactor with a power of about 200 MW, and a low-noise propulsion system and additional thrusters are used to reduce noise levels.
Ten torpedo tubes are located in the central part of the hull. Universal vertical launch systems are provided for missile weapons, allowing various types of ammunition to be used without redesigning the ship's structure.
The crew of the "Perm" consists of 64 people. After commissioning, the submarine will become one of the most modern Russian multi-purpose nuclear submarines and the first Russian Navy submarine with the permanent capability to use the Zircon hypersonic system.
