Penza engineers taught radar stations to see more accurately

NIKIREТ developed a phased array with electronic scanning

Specialists from the Research and Design Institute of Radioelectronic Technology (NIKIREТ) from the Penza region have developed a new antenna system design for radar stations. It will solve a key problem for such installations — the appearance of spurious signals due to side lobes.

The new system is a linear phased array antenna with electronic beam scanning and a parabolic reflector.

The main feature of the solution is the ability to form a narrower radiation pattern and reduce the level of side lobes. This allows for increased accuracy of the radar system and improved object detection quality.

The design uses waveguide phase shifters, special converters, polarizers, and a reflector in the form of a parabolic mirror. By changing the phases of the signals, the system can electronically change the beam direction without mechanically rotating the entire antenna.

Tests of laboratory prototypes showed the possibility of beam scanning in a 90-degree sector.
