The concern "Uralvagonzavod", part of Rostec, registered the trademark "BMPT "Spiridon"" with Rospatent. According to the agency, the designation is entered into the state register under number 1232677, and the copyright holder is JSC "Research and Production Corporation "Uralvagonzavod" named after F. E. Dzerzhinsky".
The company announced the renaming of the tank support combat vehicle back in early June. When choosing the name, the course was taken to reduce the use of foreign borrowings and switch to Russian-language names.
Uralvagonzavod noted that work on the new name was carried out within the framework of changes in legislation aimed at protecting the Russian language. In 2025, the company organized an open call for proposals, during which about two thousand unique options were received. After the selection was completed, an application for trademark registration was submitted, which has now received official approval.
The BMPT "Spiridon" is built on the T-90 tank platform and is designed to support tank units on the battlefield. The vehicle is equipped with two 30 mm automatic cannons, four "Ataka-T" guided missiles, a coaxial machine gun, and two automatic grenade launchers. The fire control system allows detecting and engaging targets day and night, while enhanced protection and a large ammunition load ensure high combat effectiveness.
