Transportation by KAMAZ unmanned trucks in the CIS is possible but depends on the availability of special infrastructure. This was stated by Sergey Nazarenko, Chief Designer of innovative vehicles at PAO "KAMAZ" (part of Rostec).
Expanding the geography of transportation within the CIS is technically possible if there is demand from carriers, but it is hindered by the lack of prepared infrastructure.
According to Nazarenko, a stable navigation signal and 4G network coverage along the entire route are needed. Freight transportation by autonomous vehicles is permissible only after comprehensive preparation of road infrastructure, he concluded.
The first stage of the "Unmanned Logistics Corridors" project started in the summer of 2023. Authorities launched the movement of unmanned KAMAZ long-haul trucks along the M-12 "Vostok" highway.
