The Russian S-400 "Triumf" anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) made the longest confirmed interception of an aerial target in history. The distance to the Saab 2000 Erieye radar reconnaissance aircraft was 314 km, IDRW reported.
The record was set by the Indian army during Operation Sindur. Indian Sergeant Bhale Singh clarified that the crew used a 40N6 missile.
The S-400 flight recorder later confirmed the interception distance of 314 km.
According to him, the electronic signature indicated the destruction of the Saab 2000 Erieye.
Earlier, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" compiled a rating of the world's longest-range anti-aircraft systems. The S-400 "Triumf" is capable of striking at a distance of up to 380 km, but only with the use of the 40N6E missile.
Air defense forces historian Yuri Knutov recalled that without the support of the Russian military, the "Triumf" equipment would quickly "turn into scrap metal".
