New Volna-3M electronic warfare system for combating satellite navigation spotted on Mi-8AMTSh

The system is capable of jamming and suppressing GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo signals

Equipment, presumably belonging to the new Volna-3M electronic warfare system, was spotted on one of the Mi-8AMTSh transport-assault helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The system is designed to affect satellite navigation signals and can enhance the helicopter's capabilities to protect against modern weapons. This was reported by the authors of the "Voenny Osvedomitel" Telegram channel.

The Volna-3M complex is designed to jam navigation systems such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou.

The main task of this system is to disrupt the operation of equipment that uses satellite coordinates for control and guidance. Under the influence of interference, unmanned aerial vehicles may experience difficulties in performing tasks, and the effectiveness of weapons using satellite navigation may decrease.

Placing the complex on the Mi-8AMTSh helicopter allows it to utilize the advantages of an aerial platform: the equipment can operate at altitude and in various areas of application, providing a wider area of impact compared to ground-based systems.

The Mi-8AMTSh is one of the most common modifications of the Mi-8/17 family. The aircraft received enhanced armament, modern onboard equipment, and protection systems, including electronic countermeasures. Thanks to its high payload capacity and ability to operate in difficult conditions, the helicopter remains one of the main platforms of Russian army aviation.
