AvtoVAZ is preparing a car that could become the most powerful and technologically advanced in the entire history of the Lada brand. We are talking about a hybrid version of the new Lada Azimut crossover. A prototype of the hybrid version of the crossover could be presented as early as 2026. This was announced by the company's president, Maxim Sokolov.
AvtoVAZ filed an application for registration of the possible name of the hybrid Azimut back in April. It is expected to be an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
The crossover will be able to travel up to 1100 kilometers on gasoline and electricity. The range on electric traction alone has not yet been specified.
The regular gasoline Lada Azimut will receive two naturally aspirated engines. The base will be a 1.6-liter engine with 120 horsepower, and more expensive versions will be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine with 135 hp. Depending on the trim level, the car will receive a six-speed manual transmission or a variator.
Earlier, Maxim Sokolov also announced that in 2027, AvtoVAZ will begin production of the Lada Azimut with a new turbocharged engine and a classic automatic transmission with a torque converter. Previously, no production Lada was equipped with a turbo engine.
