Coal supplies from Russia in June 2026 reached 20.6 million tons, which is 18% higher than in the same period last year, Vedomosti reports, citing a review by the Center for Price Indices (CCI). In January–June, exports increased by 6% year-on-year — to 105.3 million tons. The growth occurred due to the recovery of world coal prices and high demand from Asian buyers.
At the same time, the largest consumer of Russian coal — China — reduced purchases by 8%, to 7.6 million tons. However, the decline was offset by a significant increase in supplies to other countries. Shipments to India in June increased by 48%, reaching 3.5 million tons, and to Vietnam — by 2.6 times, to 1.3 million tons. Thus, Russian exporters are successfully reorienting to alternative markets.
The Center for Price Indices noted that the positive dynamics are largely maintained due to the recovery of price conditions and sustained interest from Southeast Asian countries. Overall, in the first half of the year, Russian coal exports show steady growth, despite declining demand in China.
