State Duma proposed to unblock Telegram

Deputy Obukhov stated the need to find "points of contact" with Pavel Durov

The State Duma commented on the situation with Telegram. Sergey Obukhov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for the Development of Civil Society, suggested that the messenger should be unblocked and that opportunities for interaction with its founder Pavel Durov should be sought. The deputy told RTVI about this.

The deputy also recalled that representatives of the CPRF had previously sent an appeal to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, asking him to assess the effectiveness of measures to block foreign messengers.

The appeal noted that after the "replacement" of Telegram with "Max" in border areas, problems with push notifications about missile danger appeared.

According to Sergey Obukhov, the Ministry of Digital Development's response states that blocked foreign messengers regularly violated the requirements of Russian legislation and also became the main voice services used for fraud and extortion.

In addition, the ministry stated that the owners of such services ignored the demands of the Russian authorities, and that competitive alternative messaging applications exist in Russia.

According to the deputy, the Ministry of Digital Development also reported that after the blocking of foreign messengers, the number of crimes using information and communication technologies decreased by 11.8%.
