The Rostov Electric Locomotive Repair Plant (RERZ) has started repairing 2ES4K "Donchak" series electric locomotives, becoming the first enterprise in the European part of Russia to acquire such competencies. The plant has prepared its production base and has begun implementing a medium repair program for 200 locomotive sections.
To launch the new direction, the enterprise modernized equipment, prepared special tooling, and trained employees. RERZ specialists developed and updated more than 200 sets of technological documentation, including repair and testing programs for the main components of electric locomotives.
As part of the preparation, the plant mastered the maintenance of a wide range of "Donchak" equipment – from power cabinets and inductive shunts to asynchronous traction motors and electropneumatic contactors.
Previously, the repair of electric locomotives of this type was carried out by an enterprise in Buryatia, so locomotives from the European part of the country had to be sent over significant distances.
2ES4K and 3ES4K "Donchak" electric locomotives are produced by the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant. These machines are built using elements of a single platform and are designed for hauling heavy freight trains weighing more than 6 thousand tons. The locomotives are produced in two- and three-section versions and are used on heavily loaded railways.
