The aircraft-type FPV drone "Molniya" received an unusual, but extremely simple modernization — a regular magnetic compass was attached to the body of the apparatus so that it fell into the field of view of the onboard camera. During the flight, the operator can periodically lower the camera and check the direction of movement according to the compass readings.
Such a scheme can be useful in situations where it is necessary to maintain orientation by cardinal directions or it is necessary to quickly check the flight direction with limited visual reference to the terrain. Despite the simplicity of implementation, the idea shows that it is sometimes possible to increase the convenience of control with the help of the most ordinary devices.
The "Molniya" drone family belongs to aircraft-type FPV devices and is distinguished by increased range and flight duration compared to classic quadcopters. Previously, various modifications of the platform were demonstrated, including versions with altered design, increased range, and reconnaissance variants.
