Su-35S forced Patriot to reduce firing range by 2.5 times

The "4++" generation fighter became one of the most difficult targets to intercept

The Patriot anti-aircraft system is capable of hitting aerodynamic targets like the Su-35S at a range of over 100 km, but in real conditions, this figure can be reduced by almost 2.5 times. This was reported by analysts of "Voennaya Khronika" with reference to interception scenarios.

The most favorable option for Patriot involves a head-on target course. In this case, the missile flies along an energetically advantageous trajectory and is capable of attacking the aircraft at a distance of up to 107 km. But if the target moves parallel to the air defense system's position, the range decreases to approximately 64 km.

The most difficult scenario is considered to be a tail-chase interception. Then the missile has to perform maneuvers immediately after launch and lose speed. As a result, the effective range is reduced to 44 km.

The Su-35S is one of the most difficult targets for air defense systems due to its combination of high speed, super maneuverability, and powerful onboard electronics.

The fighter is capable of speeds up to 2500 km/h, and the "Irbis-E" radar station detects aerial targets at a distance of up to 400 km.

"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" figured out how many Su-35S are in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces and why they are needed if there are more advanced Su-57s.
