Rosatom Launches Second Battery Gigafactory: Russia to Reach 50 Thousand Batteries Per Year

A new large-scale production site for lithium-ion batteries will appear in Russia. Rosatom plans to launch its second gigafactory by the end of the year – this time in the Moscow region. Alexander Bukhvalov, Director of the "Electromobility" business direction at TVEL, revealed the details.

Together with the already operating site in the Kaliningrad region, the total capacity of the two enterprises will reach 8 GWh per year. Such volumes will allow the production of up to 50 thousand battery systems annually. They will be used in various types of transport – from urban electric buses and trams to passenger electric vehicles.

Russian batteries are also planned for use in electric vessels, electric scooters, and other types of individual electric transport.

In parallel, Rosatom is developing charging infrastructure for electric transport. In particular, the installation of charging stations in Yekaterinburg is currently being discussed.

According to the state corporation's plans, the launch of both gigafactories will meet the needs of the Russian market for energy storage and ensure the implementation of export projects.
