Scammers have devised a new fraud scheme. They create fake gas station maps, promise to show fuel availability, and then try to steal users' messenger accounts. F6 company specialists have discovered a network of more than 60 phishing sites used to steal data.
In July, experts recorded an increase in such attacks amid increased interest from motorists in information about fuel availability at gas stations.
Fake sites look like services with gas station maps. Users are prompted to select a region and the desired type of fuel, after which supposedly suitable gas stations are shown.
Then, scammers offer to confirm the phone number and enter a code from an SMS. After obtaining this data, attackers can gain access to a messenger account, read correspondence, view contacts, and send messages on behalf of the owner.
According to F6, the network of such phishing resources was created from May to July 2026. Moreover, scammers use not only the topic of gas stations. They also disguise themselves as services for marketplaces, social networks, video hosting sites, and online games.
After F6's appeal, the identified domains were sent for blocking in Russia. However, scammers continue to create new addresses and launch similar resources.
Experts recommend not entering SMS confirmation codes on third-party sites and carefully checking the page address before authorization.
