Russian machine tools found to be dependent on foreign parts

Russian enterprises continue to face a shortage of domestic analogues for equipment and components. The problem remains particularly acute in machine tool building, where even modern machines often remain dependent on imported components.

According to a survey by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), almost half of companies experience a high need to replace foreign equipment.

At the same time, more than 75% of market demand is already for Russian products. However, existing capacities and nomenclature are not yet sufficient for a complete rejection of imports.

For a long time, businesses used the technological achievements of all countries. Entrepreneurs are pragmatic, so they tried to purchase the best and most advanced machines. Now technologies continue to develop, and businesses have almost no opportunity to bring them to Russia.

The problem often lies not even in the machine tools themselves, but in spare parts and consumables. Many enterprises continue to use imported equipment that has been operating for decades, but its maintenance is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive.

Full import substitution in industry will take several more years, and the main tasks for transitioning to domestic technologies may shift closer to 2028.
