Rosatom to create basis for domestic electric vehicles: TVEL to supply electric drives to automakers

Component production is planned to be launched in the Lipetsk region

Rosatom's fuel division, TVEL, plans to supply electric drives to all electric car manufacturers in Russia. The details were revealed by Alexander Bukhvalov, Director of the "Electromobility" business unit at JSC TVEL.

The electric drive for electric vehicles is the company's own development, Bukhvalov stated. TVEL collaborated with Eastern partners in creating the component, but software, further refinements, and technology development are planned to be carried out within Russia.

Rosatom notes that the task is to develop its own competencies and establish production within the country.

Production of electric drives is currently being launched in the Lipetsk region. The plant's capacities are expected to be suitable for various electric vehicle models.

As Alexander Bukhvalov noted, TVEL wants to become a component supplier for Russian electric cars, regardless of which company will produce the car itself.

The Lipetsk region is considered one of the centers for the development of Russian electric transport. The Evolute plant is located there, where electric vehicles under a Russian brand have been produced since 2022. The production site in the region includes welding, painting, and car assembly, and the project involves further increasing the level of production localization.
