FSUE "State ATM Corporation" (responsible for air traffic management over Russia) has completely abandoned Microsoft and VMware products. As CNews was informed by "Red Soft" company, the migration to a Russian stack took 23 months and was completed in November 2025.
Four critical infrastructure layers were replaced. The Windows operating system was replaced by "Red OS" based on Linux, the Active Directory management system by "Red Adm", and Hyper-V and VMware virtualization platforms by "Red Virtualization". Additionally, the "Red Database" DBMS was implemented. In total, the new solutions covered more than 10 thousand automated workstations and over 200 servers nationwide.
For the aviation industry, where an IT infrastructure management failure can lead to an emergency in the air, the transition to a fully controlled software stack means eliminating dependence on disabled Western licenses. Tenders for the replacement were placed in June 2024, two years after Microsoft's exit from Russia.
