Child seats may appear in all taxi cars in Russia

The obligation to have cars with child restraint devices in the fleet should be enshrined in law for taxi aggregators and carriers. This opinion was expressed by Yuri Grigoriev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport.

If a service offers transportation of children, a car with a child seat should not be a lucky coincidence, but a normal part of the service.
Yuri Grigoriev, State Duma Deputy

According to Grigoriev, usually a child fare in a taxi (which implies the presence of a child seat) is a long search and an increased price. That is, parents are in "the most disadvantageous position." At the same time, the authorities in Russia seek to support families with children, the deputy concluded.

In Russia, taxi services are often provided in Class A cars (so-called subcompacts with a 1.6-liter engine) with a hatchback body. Such a car is easy to park, but it has a small trunk. If the driver carries all types of child seats with him, there may not be enough space in the trunk for the passenger's own luggage. Cars with a spacious trunk are usually equipped with a more powerful engine. Fuel consumption is higher than that of subcompacts, which makes working in a taxi less profitable.

From September 1, 2025, the use of frameless devices and adapters for transporting children in a car was banned in Russia. For children under 7 years old, car seats (carrycots) are provided. If a child is over 7 years old (but under 11 years old), then a booster seat is allowed for them in the back seat or a seat belt can be used (if the height is over 150 cm). In the front seat, only a child seat is allowed.

For children over 12 years old, standard seat belts are used. In case of violation of transportation rules, drivers face a fine of up to 5,000 rubles, for officials - 50,000 rubles, for legal entities and taxi fleets - 200,000 rubles.
