In the draft presidential decree prepared by Roscosmos, the exploration of Venus using automatic spacecraft is designated as one of the key directions for the development of domestic cosmonautics after 2036. The document provides for the concentration of resources on the most important projects that should ensure technological leadership, independence of the space industry, security, and development of the country.
The “Venera-D” mission remains the basis of the Russian program for studying the second planet from the Sun. Currently, the lander is undergoing the preliminary design stage.
The project is included in the federal program “Space Science”. The apparatus is being developed by NPO Lavochkin, and scientific support is provided by the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The future expedition is intended to continue the study of Venus with an automatic station capable of operating directly on the planet's surface, where extremely high temperatures and pressures persist.
Earlier, “Pervy Tekhnichesky” reported that Russia in the next ten years intends to deploy a nuclear power plant on the Moon and create transport systems with nuclear power units for interplanetary flights. The draft presidential decree with the space strategy until 2036 is published on the portal of normative legal acts.
