The hull of the lead hydrographic pilot vessel "Pavel Mikhalenko" has been formed at the Volzhsky Shipyard

The project is being implemented by order of Rosatom for the Northern Sea Route

The technical readiness of the lead Arc7 ice-class hydrographic pilot vessel "Pavel Mikhalenko", under construction at the facilities of the Volzhsky Shipyard (AO "SSZ Volzhsky", Nizhny Novgorod), has reached almost 42%. Shipbuilders have fully formed the hull and begun installing systems and equipment.

The construction of an ice-class pilot vessel is one of the key projects for the development of the navigation infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route (NSR). It is being implemented by order of the state corporation Rosatom.

Characteristics of the vessel "Pavel Mikhalenko":

  • Length — 70 m
  • Power plant capacity — 8 MW
  • Ice class — Arc7
  • Dynamic positioning system (keeps the vessel at a given point using propellers and thrusters)

Evgeny Semenov, General Director of AO "SSZ Volzhsky", stated that the development of the NSR requires not only an icebreaking fleet but also a specialized fleet.

For the safe operation of the route, modern navigation infrastructure is necessary, an important part of which are specialized hydrographic vessels.
