The main challenge for the Geran drone today is not its flight characteristics, but the rapid development of countermeasures. This conclusion was reached by military expert Yaroslav Dymchuk.
In his opinion, it is the constant need for modernization that is gradually depriving the device of one of its main advantages — its relatively low cost.
New versions receive more complex control systems, improved design, and more powerful propulsion systems, but this inevitably affects the price.
Countermeasures against "Geran" are evolving much faster than expected, which forces us to involuntarily improve the long-range drone. And this, in turn, leads to an unacceptable increase in the cost of the drone.
Dymchuk noted that increasing speed also requires serious engineering compromises.
More powerful engines increase fuel consumption, which reduces flight range, and strengthening the design leads to an increase in the drone's mass.
