42% more powerful than its predecessors: "Orlets" electric locomotive approved for serial production

Commission confirmed compliance with requirements

At the "Uralskiye Lokomotivy" plant, the commission for the acceptance of the 2ES11 "Orlets" AC mainline freight electric locomotive completed its work. Specialists confirmed that the machine complies with the technical specifications and safety standards. Based on the test results, a decision was made to produce an initial series of 50 locomotives.

During the checks, traction-energy and strength characteristics were evaluated, braking systems, electromagnetic compatibility, and working conditions of the locomotive crew were tested. The electric locomotive traveled more than 5 thousand kilometers. The power of the new machine is 42 percent higher than that of previous series. In a two-section version, it can pull trains up to 7100 tons, and with a booster section – up to 9000 tons. The design speed is 120 kilometers per hour.

The new "Orlets" is designed to replace the 2ES7 electric locomotives, the production of which stopped in 2022. To establish production, "Uralskiye Lokomotivy" received a preferential loan of 1 billion rubles from the FRP. The machine is equipped with an asynchronous traction drive, a fully load-bearing body that reduces weight, and a self-learning control system that adapts to operating conditions.
