The first robotic drilling rig in mainland Russia started operating in the Irkutsk region

The development performs dangerous operations without human involvement and accelerates well construction

The first robotic drilling rig in mainland Russia has been launched in the Irkutsk region. It operates at the Chonsk group of fields and has already been put into trial operation. The main feature of the complex is that it takes over the heaviest and most dangerous operations on the drilling rig.

This refers to a robotic tripping and hoisting operations complex. It was created based on the Russian software products IR-PAK and IR-Operbot by Rigintel. The solution combines digital technologies, automation, data analysis, and artificial intelligence.

The drilling rig can assemble, disassemble, lower, and raise drill and casing strings without human involvement. This is necessary to make operations more accurate, predictable in terms of time, and repeatable in terms of results.

Robotization also allows removing humans from dangerous zones, thereby increasing the safety of the entire production process.

The implementation of the complex has reduced operation time and well construction time by 4%. Further development and scaling of the technology to new facilities are planned.

Currently, a video analytics system is being implemented, which should block equipment operation if a person is in a dangerous zone.
